99.9 % uptime allows about 8 hours 46 minutes of downtime per year, 43 minutes 50 seconds per month and 10 minutes 5 seconds per week.
Each extra nine cuts the allowed downtime by a factor of ten: 99.9 % allows about 8.8 hours per year, 99.99 % about 53 minutes and 99.999 % about 5 minutes.
That depends on the contract. Many SLAs exclude announced maintenance windows. In m0nitor you schedule maintenance so planned work does not count as an outage in your uptime reports.
The calculator uses an average month of 30.44 days (365.25 days divided by 12) and a year of 365.25 days, as most SLA documents do.
You need independent measurements. m0nitor checks your service from several regions, counts confirmed outages only and produces SLA reports per month or quarter.
